It won’t be long before the BYD M6 makes its way into the country’s list of top selling electric vehicles and appearing in the upper end of the chart. Launched on October 15, response for the all-electric MPV has been strong, with nearly 1,000 orders received for it in its first month of going on sale here.
This was indicated by Jeffrey Gan, MD of retail and distribution of Sime Darby Motors Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Macau, yesterday in his speech during the launch of the BYD Sealion 7 SUV.
The M6 is on sale in Malaysia in two variant forms, the M6 Standard, which goes for RM109,800, and the M6 Extended, which is priced at RM123,800. Both are seven-seaters, but feature different battery capacities as well as output numbers from their electric powertrains.
The Standard features a 55.4 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that powers a front-mounted electric motor developing 163 PS (161 hp or 120 kW) and 310 Nm. This provides the MPV with a NEDC-rated range of 420 km and a 0-100 km/h time of 10.1 seconds.
The Extended, meanwhile, is equipped with a 71.8 kWh battery, and its motor has a higher power output of 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW). The combination allows the variant a longer travel range of 530 km (also NEDC) and less time to get to the 100 km/h mark from standstill, doing so in 8.6 secconds. Top speed is identical for both, at 180 km/h.
As for charging, the M6 Standard can accept up to 89 kW of DC fast charging, while the Extended can take up to 115 kW, the latter taking 40 minutes to get the battery from a 10 to 80% state-of-charge. Meanwhile, AC charging is limited to 7 kW on both variants.
Standard equipment includes a rotating 12.8-inch central touchscreen display, analogue instrument gauges (with a five-inch TFT multi-info display), faux leather upholstery, keyless entry, push-button start, an NFC key card, automatic air-conditioning, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a six-speaker audio system and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.
The list of kit common to both variants also includes a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, cruise control, a PM 2.5 air filter, an electronic parking brake, brake auto hold and a portable charging cable. The Extended adds on items such as a panoramic glass roof, six-way driver/four-way front passenger power-adjustable ventilated front seats (manual on the Standard), a Qi wireless mobile charger, a roof rack, alloy pedals, a powered tailgate and automatic high-beam control for the headlights.
